FAQ

  • Is that a real guitar?

Yes, the Cerberus™ is a fully functioning electric guitar. It has a high-gain single-coil pickup with thousands of coil windings of 44 AWG copper wire. It has 19 polished, hemispherical end frets. It has a standard ¼” phone jack and volume and tone controls. All just like a typical guitar!

  • How do you play it?

Just like you’d play any other electric guitar. The primary difference is that it has 3 strings instead of the typical 6. But those 3 strings are tuned just like they would be on a 6 string guitar. We’ve got you covered with chord and scale charts to help you get familiar with the Cerberus™—whether you're just starting out or looking to explore its full potential. Plus, we’ll offer online resources like lessons and demo videos designed especially for beginners.

  • What else do I need to play? An amplifier?

While you will need an amplifier to make music of any volume, there are really small and light amps now that produce incredible sound when paired with a Cerberus™ Adventure Guitar. And of course you can go big as well.

  • How do I string it and what strings does it use?

We will ship every Cerberus™ in the “ADG” configuration, meaning that it has the same A, D and G strings as a typical electric guitar. We use D’Addario XS Nickel Coated strings because they are super long lasting and sound great. Our saddles are designed to have excellent intonation when paired with these strings. You will be able to swap out the saddle for other string combinations as well. As for actually installing the strings, it’s pretty simple: you thread the string through the tail stock, back through the head stock, around the clamp screw, and tighten. Clip off the excess and you’re done! And we have a stringing lesson available online.

  • What are the tunings?

The standard configuration will be the A, D and G strings. We have found ADG to be extremely versatile – you can play major, minor and 7th chords with ease and the range is suited to lots of musical styles. The other combinations will be available as well, i.e., EAD, DGB and GBE, depending on your vibe. We might even make a saddle for you cigar box players out there that like to use all G strings! Also, you’re able to tune any of the tunings to "open tunings" to make playing chords easy. Great for rhythm players and new players, including younger children.

  • How do I clean it?

The Cerberus™ has multiple coats of durable polyurethan finish on it to resist moisture and dirt. We’ve packed our prototypes on literally hundreds of miles of hiking. Most dirt will just wipe off with a damp cloth. If you ever need to restore the finish, new polyurethane can be wiped on at any time.

  • Is there a warranty?

We offer a full warranty for parts and workmanship for 1 year from the date of purchase. That said, we will do our best to make any issues you have right. The Cerberus™ is a high quality musical instrument and is designed to last under challenging conditions. We want you to enjoy your Cerberus™ for many years and will do what we can to support you all along your musical journey.

  • Do you have tutorials?

Yes, we are developing materials to help you get started quickly with your Cerberus™. During the Kickstarter phase of our launch, chord and scale charts are available on our VIP Facebook page and we will add tutorial videos to our YouTube channel as we make them. Later, these will all be available on our website, www.adventureguitars.com

  • Is there a skill level required to use the Adventure Guitar?

Nope! At least not any more than a typical electric guitar. Cerberus™ is fun and capable for the experienced guitarist, but also approachable to newer guitarists. It's actually more straightforward to play than a traditional electric guitar because there are only 3 strings and open tunings, which simplifies the experience for any player. Some new players find 6 strings intimidating and difficult to finger chords.

  • What does the Adventure Guitar come with?

Every Cerberus™ comes with a soft case, the tuning key, an ultra-light strap, some Adventure Guitars picks and a 2mm hex wrench for string clamp screws and attaching the strap. Other accessories, like the hard case, a pro strap and the saddle pack will also be available.

  • Do you ship internationally?

We do expect to be able to ship internationally, but we can’t say exactly when.

  • What is the return policy?

If you’re not happy with your Cerberus™, we’ll do everything we can to make it right with you.

  • Can I get replacement parts?

Yes, the Cerberus™ is designed to be super durable, but if you do need a replacement part, we’ll have those ready.

  • How do I get technical help?

Just ask! You can always email us at info@adventureguitars.com and we’ll do our level best to help!

  • Do you make other instruments?

Not right now… wink wink! But we will have an entire line of accessories and supporting materials.

Why Does Cerberus™ Have Three Strings?

Adventure Guitars set out to create the most portable, great sounding, easy-to-play guitar available. Our first guitar, the Cerberus™, leverages a long history of 3-stringed instruments, as well as recent movements to the mainstream. Three-string instruments have been around for centuries, with historical examples dating back to the Middle Ages. While the modern six-string guitar is a more recent development, instruments with fewer strings were common in the past. The Guitarra Latina and Guitarra Morisca, were precursors to the modern guitar. Cigar box guitars, often featuring three strings, have also been a staple of folk music for over a century. The popular band “The Presidents of the United States of America” famously used modified 3-string guitars in their music and live performances. Even Paul McCartney has played cigar box guitars! The Cerberus™ innovates this three-string platform taking it to the next level of American design and manufacturing, portability, and versatility!
